campsite aesthetics
„IS THERE A PLACE FOR ART IN AN ARTIFICIAL ENVIRONMENT?“
…is one of the questions me and Norwegian artist and collaborator Guro Aae were discussing, when we decided to attempt to set up a two-week artist driven, independent AiR in Örebro next summer. We are interested in spaces where art does not have a natural place. Spaces that not automatically make a work of art understandable as an artwork, in the way that a white cube would. Present politics like to combine cultural value with leisure activities, art with entertainment. Ignoring the fact, that even seen as a leisure activity or entertainment, art would have a very different audience than activities containing a more instant satisfaction. We recognize Gustavsvik as a relevant, yet unexplored, place in the city to take this discussion. The plan is to rent a cabin at Gustavsvik’s campsite in Örebro for 14 days, and in addition to ourselves, offer two more artists, the opportunity to use the campsite as an artist residency. The results will be presented in a collaborative exhibition.
